Crouching Panther, Sleeping Throne
by Amy97
Synopsis
Once, Mu Yan Zhao was the empire's most feared general, a brilliant, ruthless commander whose name alone could turn armies silent on the battlefield. Now, confined to a wheelchair and abandoned by a court that measures worth only in usefulness, he is nothing but a broken prince waiting to be forgotten.
Until he volunteers to marry a stranger.
Ji Chen is a branch disciple from Qingyun Sect, expendable and overlooked his entire life, the kind of man nobody minds losing. When he arrives at the palace expecting to be tolerated at best, he finds instead a man wrapped in ice so thick it has become armor, determined to prove that cruelty is kinder than kindness, that distance is safer than devotion.
Ji Chen doesn't leave. Instead, he begins to see what others have missed: that Yan Zhao's paralysis doesn't match the accounts of his accident. That the evidence has been carefully arranged. That someone close enough to strike repeatedly is keeping the prince dependent, crippled, powerless.
As Ji Chen slowly chips away at Yan Zhao's walls, the prince finally begins to heal, his legs obeying him, his mind sharpening, his rage awakening. But with each step toward recovery comes a new danger: the conspirator, watching, growing desperate. And somewhere between the poisoned nights and the guarded mornings, between conspiracy and healing, Yan Zhao discovers something more treacherous than any enemy.
He's no longer willing to be forgotten. And he's no longer willing to let Ji Chen walk away.
